Broschur / Softcover. 1. Aufl. Sprache: Englisch, Japanisch / Double Negatives Architecture, shortly dNA, views the processes and devices used to measure space as 'architecture'. dNA assembled a team for each project and engaged in a unique spectrum of activities including software and architectural design. Spanning both technical and conceptual aspects, dNA has consistently questioned the very concept of "the language of architecture". It commenced their research on spatial inscriptions using dynamic polar coordinates which they call "Super Eye". Currently dNA is employing a bottom-up style cell automaton program to study architectural modelling through the automated generation of forms, architectural visions on progressive spatial concept and progressive architectural language. A series of black and white photographs (23 rolls of negatives, with prints of 22 of the rolls) taken on a journey through Japan in autumn 1969 by Professor Basil Johnson. The photographs are accompanied by Professor Johnson's handwritten notes. The places visited include Sapporo and farm landscapes around, Takikawa, Otaru (with images of fishing boats), Hakodate, rural scenes around Fukushima, Numazu, Kumamoto, the Kita Kyushu coalmines, Nagoya, Numazu, Mt. Fuji, Nagoya, Kumamoto and Kita Kyushu.Rural scenes include images of tea plantations and mulberry cultivation. There are photos of coal mines and miners' housing in Hokkaido and Kita Kyushu, and Prof Johnson's notes on Kita Kyushu include the word "pollution!" (This was at the period when Japan's industrial pollution problems were at their height.) A number of the photos are of dams and water control schemes. The study tour provided material for Johnson's co-authored book "Place, People and Work In Japan: Four Studies" (Thomas Nelson and Heinnemann Educational Books, 1972).
