Magazine. 32p., including covers, 5.5x8.5 inches, very good digest size magazine in stapled pictorial wraps. 10th Anniversary issue. "Note on Phallic Worship" by Winters. As For Me by Jackson. One, Inc., which took its name from Thomas Carlyle's statement that "A mystic bond of brotherhood makes all men one," was founded in LA in 1952 as a homophile organization with connections to the Mattachine Society. As the first pro-gay journal of its kind, it serves as an important source for pre-Stonewall homophile studies. In 1954 the US Post Office declared it obscene, leading to a four-year legal battle (chronicled in its pages) that concluded with a favorable decision as part of Roth vs. United States. Aside from its articles covering topics ranging from the Beatniks and Gay marriage to homosexuality and national security, One Magazine also featured poetry and short fiction by numerous prominent authors.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. Kirk Pedersen (illustrator). KIRK PEDERSEN: URBAN ASIA (DELUXE EDITION) The Special Edition includes a signed photo in a clamshell box - signed and numbered edition of 100 with four different photos available (edition 25), (40 are reserved for the artist). The book is comprised of 85 large format reproductions with images from Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and several cities in China. It is not a travel book and is unlike any other book on the cities of Asia. Jeff Brouw's writes in the introduction, no other artist-photographer is doing exactly what he is doing. With this fluid approach, traveling from city to city with no grand theme in mind, his work is distinctly different from his contemporaries. Michael Wolf shoots exclusively in Hong Kong and China; Edward Burtynsky's extensive coverage of the Three Gorges Dam Project and other industrial sites has happened often within the territorial limits of China; and Sze Tsung Leong history images - scenes of rampant development and architectural spectacle - are confined to Shanghai. While they all might share continents and countries they don't share viewpoints. Pedersen's eclectic stance creates a different photographic yield - he reclaims the commonplace and the fragmentary in these spaces/places. Hardcover, cloth with jacket, 160 pages, 12 x 12 inches, Japanese matt paper with spot vanished images. Printed in Hong Kong by Hing Yip Printing Company. Limited deluxe edition, 22/100, signed, with an original signed print, all in a clamshell box.

From the essay by David Pagel: "Kirk Pedersen's pictures of the things he sees as he walks along the bustling streets and meandering alleys of big cities all over Asia take viewers into a world that's a lot like our own yet significantly different: chaotic and crowded yet tinged with a trace of exoticism and charged with the thrill of the unfamiliar. The specificity of locales and histories is less important than the specificity of colors, shapes, and textures -- rhyming lines and echoing forms that complement and conflict with one another to create pulsing rhythms, sensuous atmospheres, and complex emotions. As a photographer, Pedersen makes an art of being an anonymous passerby. His pictures invite viewers into a world in which much has already happened, plenty is taking place, and still more remains to unfold." Signed by Author.
