Important anthology of poetry by black poets, assembled when students at the University of Michigan complained because none of the anthologies used in introductory poetry courses included black poets. Some of the poets anthologized here for the first time, became very famous over the course of time. The book's pages are lightly toned but clean without marks, creases, stains, wrinkles, foxing or tears. There is an ink smudge on the inside front cover and another on the inside back cover.
