30 cm, Leinen. ca. 300 Seiten , die Seiten sind leicht gebräunt oder fleckig, TSCHECHISCHE MUSIK ist in der ganzen Welt bekannt und beliebt, - es sei an Bedrich Smetana, Antonin Dvorak, Leos Janacek und Bohuslav Martmü erinnert -, viel weniger aber kennt man außerhalb der Grenzen tschechische Tänze und tschechisches Ballett. Und doch hat die tschechische Polka in den vierziger Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts die ganze Welt tatsächlich auf den Kopf gestellt und nicht nur die Musik, sondern auch die Tanzkunst vieler Nationen bereichert. Man muß die Geschichte des tschechischen und des slowakischen Volkes kennen, die jahrhundertelange nationale Unterdrückung durch die Habsburger mit der Tendenz zu germanisieren und zu magyarisieren, den schicksalhaften Kampf beider Völker um ein uneingeengtes, eigenes Kulturleben, der erst in der ersten Hälfte des vorigen Jahrhunderts feste Formen annahm und endlich im Jahr 1918, nach dem ersten Weltkrieg und der Oktoberrevolution, zum Sieg führte, als beide Völker auch die staatliche Selbständigkeit zurückgewannen. Nur so kann man verstehen. warum der Entwicklungsgang des Theaters und zugleich auch der des Balletts in diesen Ländern anders und wesentlich schwieriger war als der eigenstaatücher Völker. In diesem Kampf fiel dem Volkslied und dem Volkstanz im vorigen Jahrhundert eine wichtige Rolle zu. In der Zeit der nationalen Wiedergeburt wurden Volkslied und Volkstanz zur starken Stütze des Nationalbewußtseins und verdrängten aus den Salons und Bällendes jungen fortschrittlichen Bürgertums sogar die fremden Formen der damals beliebten Gesellschaftstänze. .
