In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. In Romanian. Apparent First Edition (NAP). A few days ago I listed a book titled 'The Jewish People of Arad: Life and History.' This is the same book, but it is written in Romanian. As you can see from the photos, the covers are in excellent condition, very clean and unworn. The page…edges are also perfectly clean. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover, with nicely tight pages. The pages are exceptionally clean and bright. I don't see any soiling. They are also in very good condition. I saw too early pages with some creasing off their middle edge. The only other imperfection: there was likely a bump to the top corner of the rear cover and that has caused a semi-crease at the top corners of the later pages in the book. Quite minor. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There are a good many illustrations in the book, old photographs, documents, maps. ARAD, oraș în Transilvania, vestul României; până în 1918, în interiorul granițelor Ungariei. Evreii sunt înregistrați pentru prima dată acolo în 1717. Reglementările pentru societatea de înmormântare au fost elaborate în 1750. Ocupațiile evreiești în această primă perioadă au fost în principal legate de producerea și vânzarea de băuturi alcoolice și comerțul cu cereale. În 1742 conducerea comunității locale a solicitat intervenția autorităților raionale pentru a-și îmbunătăți situația. Comunitatea mică a devenit importantă după 1789, cu alegerile ca rabin al lui Aaron Chorin, care a slujit până la moartea sa în 1844. Chorin sa născut și a studiat în provinciile cehe ale Austriei, una dintre regiunile mai prosperă și mai emancipată ale țării. El a intrat în curând în conflict cu rabinii Ungariei, care preferau un mod de viață și comportament mai conservator și mai tradițional. Sub conducerea sa, Arad a devenit un centru al mișcării de reformă în iudaism. El a inițiat construcția unei sinagogi în 1828, a înființat o mică școală și a înființat o școală elementară. El a încurajat, de asemenea, tinerii evrei să intre în ocupații productive. Datorită eforturilor sale, în Arad, în anul 1841, au fost în jur de 100 de meseriași evrei înalt calificați. În 1832, la inițiativa lui Chorin, prima școală evreiască a fost construită în Arad, unde a devenit obligatorie studierea limbii maghiare. A fost una dintre primele școli evreiești recunoscute oficial de autoritățile maghiare. Chiar și după moartea lui Chorin, comunitatea din Arad a rămas mult timp un bastion al reformei extreme. Emanciparea evreilor în 1867 a atras mulți evrei să participe activ la viața economică, politică și culturală maghiară, considerându-se maghiari de religie mozaică. Evreii din Arad au participat activ la viața publică maghiară (unul dintre ei, dr. Ferenc Sarkany, devenind primar al orașului, chiar și voluntar pentru armată în timpul primului război mondial). La sfârșitul primului război mondial, totuși, un număr considerabil de evrei ortodocși s-au stabilit acolo și au stabilit o comunitate. Rabinii neologi din Arad au fost susținători timpurii ai maghiarizării printre evrei; încă în 1845, R. Jacob Steinhart a predat o predică în limba maghiară. Mișcarea sionistă a găsit sprijin în Arad, iar "Partidul Evreiesc", după ce Transilvania a devenit parte a României în 1919, a obținut și multe voturi în alegerile pentru parlamentul român ".
