The Honey Dun Press limited edition of this reflective work of angling literature. Octavo, bound in half green morocco over marbled boards with gilt titles to the spine, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, all edges speckled, with a hand-colored engraving of the natural flies from the circa 1810 first edition tipped in. One of 400 numbered copies, this is number 202. In fine condition, bookplate to the half-title page. Housed in a custom box with marbled boards and paper titles. Fly fishing is a method of angling in which fish are caught using an artificial âflyâ cast with a weighted line and specialized rod, emphasizing precision, timing, and the controlled imitation of insect life. Beyond its technical demandsâ"casting mechanics, reading currents, and matching local hatchesâ"fly fishing has developed a distinct cultural tradition in which skill is framed as attentiveness to ecology and restraint toward the natural world.

Large 8vo (162 x 253mm). Ppxii,43 and vi,30,i. Tipped-in hand-coloured frontispiece facsimile of the first edition, four mounts containing thirty flies, marbled end-papers. Fully bound in crushed red Morocco, five raised bands, gilt decorated spine, all edges gilt. Maroon cloth-bound slipcase. A very fine copy in slipcase. Copy XV of 55 large paper de luxe copies with flies. Signed by Jack Heddon, Thomas Clegg and Terry Griffiths. First published in Chepstow circa 1810, the first edition is extremely scarce with copies changing hands for tens of thousands of pounds. This is the large paper de luxe issue of the 1974 Honey Dun Press edition. Large 8vo (162 x 253mm). Ppxii,43 and vi,30,i. Tipped-in hand-coloured facsimile of the frontispiece of the first edition, four mounts at the rear of the book containing thirty flies dressed to Scotcher's patterns, marbled end-papers. Fully bound in crushed red Morocco by Aquarius, five raised bands, gilt decorated spine, all edges gilt. Maroon cloth-bound slipcase. Fifty-five copies were produced thus. It was intended for Thomas Clegg to tie thirty flies to Scotcher's patterns to be mounted within each copy. However, due to other commitments Clegg was only able to produce the first six patterns for each copy. Patterns seven to twenty were therefore tied by Terry Griffiths and patterns twenty-one to thirty tied by Jack Heddon. All three have signed the limitation page. Loosely laid into this copy is a publisher's notice giving the information about who tied the flies, a Honey Dun Press compliments slip signed by A.F. Sismore (Honey Dun Press binder and director) and a typed and signed letter on headed paper also signed by Sismore giving details of the binding. This de luxe edition includes the full text of the first edition along with notes by Jack Heddon. These notes were published separately in 1975. .
