Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Poor. First Edition. This book offers a new answer to an old problem: how to escape the fatty degeneration of middle age. Colonel Shephard, a Rooinek with a passion for South Africa, made his flight from encroaching years the hard way. He saddled up his pony, Pasha, and set out on a ride from the Wilderness to Cape Town, scorning the tourist-trampled highways and follow ing the natural by-ways of the magnificent Garden Route. THE JOURNEY turned out to be a pure idyll, for the author basked not only in sunshine and scenery but steeped himself in the spirit and traditions of the places he passed through and the people he met. His keen eye, too, often registered the furtive movements in tree, bush and rock which betray the presence of wild life; and defi pen-and-ink sketches of pleasant scenes and delightful creatures which took his fancy enliven the pages of his journal. Add to all this a natural breeziness of style, a quick sympathy for the country of his adoption and a fund of anecdote from an adventurous life and you have the pot-pourri of pleasantry which goes to make up Rooinek's Ride. ------------------ Orders over $100.00 are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
