Hardback. Thos. E. Spencer, Currey O'Neil. Edition: repr.,Condition remarks:Book: Good Jacket: Wear and tearPages: Yellowed Markings: Previous ownerA celebrated piece of Australian comic verse, How M'Dougall Topped the Score presents one of the most beloved and humorous narratives in the bush ballad tradition. Written with rollicking wit and a keen ear for the rhythms of colonial Australian life, the poem chronicles the unlikely heroics of M'Dougall, a Scottish immigrant whose unconventional intervention - aided by his faithful dog - saves a local cricket match in spectacular and absurd fashion. Spencer illustrates the larrikin spirit of rural Australia with sharp comic timing, painting a vivid portrait of community, competition, and cheerful chaos. The poem's infectious energy and memorable characters have secured its place as a classic of Australian folk literature, recited and celebrated for generations. Hardback.…

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book consists of a series of extracts from a religious text called the Book of Common Prayer alongside observations from the author, a clergyman deeply involved in the movement to repeal the Corn Laws at a time when food was scarce and bread was costly. The author argues powerfully that the principles of the Christian faith demand justice and mercy, freedom from hunger and poverty, and that defending the profits of landowners by keeping the price of bread high is a violation of these principles. Examples from Scripture and Biblical teachings are provided to support this line of argument and demonstrate the author's belief that faith in action should extend to the pursuit of social and economic justice. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …
