Earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper. Near fine condition. "South Africa's rich regional diversity makes local gardening a huge challenge. Based on ecological principles regarding regional indigenous gardening, the aim of this book is to simplify gardening and to make it as cost effective and maintenance free as possible for all South African gardeners, indigenous plant lovers and landscapers. We all want instant gardens - and we can have them! So many people have asked me to explain indigenous gardening principles: which indigenous plants would thrive in the region in which they live, and what is the correct planting sequence; how can they efficiently develop a well-balanced, low-maintenance garden, which will reflect the character of the region? This book answers all of these questions, and more, providing the reader with valuable advice and information on the planning and establishment of an indigenous, waterwise garden.".…

4to; pictorial boards; pp. 368, incl. index; profusely illustrated in full colour. Boards ever so slightly rubbed. Near-fine condition. Uncommon. "The secret of waterwise gardening is to know what vegetation region we live in and to choose plant species which are suited to that region. Plants that are indigenous to an area do not need additional watering; they are already adapted to the prevailing climate and weather conditions and should thrive under all but the most exceptional of circumstances. When we garden in harmony with nature we are working with the elements, not against them. Waterwise Gardening in South Africa and Namibia is aimed at anyone who wants to create a new garden or convert an existing one to waterwise principles. The content focuses on South Africa's vegetation regions: Fynbos, Strandveld-fynbos and Succulent Karoo for the winter-rainfall areas; and Highveld, Bushveld, Thicket and Karoo for the summer-rainfall regions; as well as the forests and subtropical coastal belt, the Namib desert, and indigenous house plants. Recommended species are listed under horticultural categories such as trees and shrubs, annuals, architectural plants and aquatic plants, enabling you to choose what will work best in your particular environment. With the right plants in place, your garden will soon be manageable, beautiful and sustainable - as nature intended it to be.".…

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Seventh Edition. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 144 bladsye, uitmuntende tekeninge en kleur fotos ------------------ Orders over $100.00 are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
