Print Sz: 13 3/4"H x 15 1/4"W Frame Sz: 20 1/4"H x 22 3/4"W Published by Sign of The Gosden Head, New York Hand-signed and numbered by Franklin Brooke Voss, this 1936 limited edition Chromolithograph is after his original 1935 painting depicting the racehorse, Discovery, standing with his groom and Jockey, John Joseph Bejshak (1909-1969). Discovery (1931 1958) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse. In a racing career that lasted from 1933 to 1936, he ran sixty-three times and won twenty-seven races. The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame said that he was: ".considered one of the greatest horses of the 20th century. This rare, pencil-signed F.B. Voss Chromolithograph is number 197 out of only 260 printed and measures 15 ¼ by 13 ¾ , by sight. On the right is the pattern for the Jockey Silks, with the owner's colors. The rare hand colored print comes professionally and properly mounted under glass in a 22 ¾ by 20 ¼ frame. The Jockey's Name, J. Bejshak, is blind stamped into the paper, as well as a blind stamp of a Roman head beneath the pencil signature of Voss. Franklin Brooke Voss was born in New York City in 1880. He attended the Art Students League of New York, where George Bridgman was his teacher. He was commissioned paintings by the Whitneys, Riddles, Vanderbilts, Phippses, Wideners, and Willis Sharpe Kilmer. He painted Man o' War, Equipoise, Seabiscuit, War Admiral, Sir Barton and Whirlaway. Some of his work can be found at the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in Lake Worth, Florida.

This is a thorough guide to foxhunting in North America. The author Alexander Mackay-Smith (1903-1998) served as the Master of Foxhounds of the Blue Ridge Hunt for 16 years. He also served as Director for Virginia of the Masters of Foxhounds Association and from 1952 to 1976 was editor of its official publication The Chronicle of the Horse. He is a past President of the American Foxhound Club and was the author of four of its publications. In original cloth binding with original unclipped dust wrapper.
