Neuware -Coast-interior gap in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in China has been seen increasing; however, the diffusion trend across provinces has become more obvious. The determinants of regional distribution of FDI among Chinese provinces have been examined using data in 28 Chinese provinces from 1985 to 2007. Alternative theories divided determinants explaining FDI location into three subgroups: agglomeration economies, comparative advantage and location tournaments. The results provide support for the agglomeration hypothesis and some determinants in comparative advantages. Among four proxies for comparative advantages, wage and GDP per head have expected effect on FDI while the effect of infrastructure is statistically insignificant. Surprisingly, human capital shows a puzzling opposite sign at high significant level. Tax rate, a proxy for location tournament, shows a significant and negative effect on FDI. In this study, we intended to gain insight into the issues and concerns that influence the work characteristics of female dentists. A number of studies have shown that gender differences exist in choice of specialisation, practice patterns, and professional attitudes; some have revealed that women are attracted to primary care management ahead of other dental specialties. It is also evident that women work fewer hours, work part-time and see fewer patients than men, and are less likely to own their practice than their male counterparts. There is also a net income discrepancy between male and female dentists. We used a qualitative description methodology to guide this study, for which we recruited a purposive sample of six female dentists from the dental clinics of Montreal General Hospital, in the greater region of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. All interviews were fully transcribed, with the data managed with NVivo vr.9 software to facilitate the analysis. Pragmatic vagueness is a diplomatic strategy used in speech acts, where the addresser employs different linguistic markers of pragmatic vagueness to transfer two or more different kinds of illocutionary forces, create discoursal implications or metaphoric effects and make it hard for the addressee to clearly decode the addresser's real intention from the vague expressions. The analysis focuses on how Greenspan manipulated linguistic markers of hedging and modality to realize his communicative targets of revealing the FRB's official attitude to the public with a certain degree of transparency, at the same time keeping specific information of the FRB monetary policy with descretion.
