Inked note at top of free endpaper, "HRH The D of York". Charles Mellish (d.1796) was a lawyer and M.P. He inherited Blyth Hall in 1791. Rev. Jeremiah Seed died in 1747, but only two of his sermons were published during his lifetime. "Seed was much admired as a preacher. Dr. Johnson remarked that he had 'a very fine style' but 'he was not very theological' - DNB." Sermon III here is "National Wickedness in Danger of provoking National Judgments." Joseph Hall was his colleague at Queen's College, and the editor of this work.

Covers significantly rubbed and with small missing parts at the upper spines, one head band is missing. 3 front covers almost completely loosened from the book block. Endpapers darkened at the margins. Volume 3 with embossed armorial bearing "Les ses dire" and long private notes by old hand in ink on endpaper and inner cover, in the back with name inscription, both by Joseph Carvill, Loughinisland, Ireland. Sheets only partly spotted, some margins darkened. Good copies.

All corners, edges and the top and bottom of the spines show rubbing and wear, while the top right corner of the second volume has been damages such that the some of the leather is missing and the board under has been exposed and damaged. [please see the photos] The top right corner of the ffep in Vol 2 has been torn and there is a 2" by 3" piece missing. There are two discreet previous owner's signatures in both volumes. The text block on both volumes are free of markings. This is a Synopsis of Medicine focused on Surgery and Midwifery originally in Latin this edition has been translated by the author John Allen M.D. to English. Vol 1 is 400pgs, Vol 2 is 356 pgs plus a Syllabus and Index of Distempers.
