Boun…d as a Victorian school prize copy in full grey-blue roan or morocco with a gilt-ruled border and an elaborate gilt armorial cartouche to the front board reading "Mr. Scott's School, Picardy Place," identifying it as a prize awarded at a private academy on Picardy Place in Edinburgh's New Town, a short distance from Arthur Conan Doyle's birthplace. Marbled endpapers typical of the style. Condition: the front board has become completely detached from the text block, a significant structural fault; boards also show surface soiling and a corner chip, though the gilt prize panel remains crisp and fully legible. Text block appears clean and complete. Sold as a decorative and locally significant example of Scottish school prize binding, requiring rebacking or board reattachment for full stability; priced accordingly.
