India accounted for 78 per cent of the global turmeric production. The increasing demand for natural product as food ad…ditives makes turmeric as a food colourant. India is a dominant player in the global market as far as turmeric is concerned. In view of the economic importance of turmeric the present study was taken up in Tamil Nadu. From this study, the following conclusions are drawn. The economic efficiency analysis of turmeric cultivation revealed that there was a scope to increase the yield by increasing significant inputs. Financial feasibility analysis revealed that there is a scope for starting a rural turmeric processing unit. Four types of marketing channels were identified and price spread were estimated. The most important constraints identified by the turmeric growers in production of turmeric were non availability of labour. Higher price fluctuation was the marketing constraints expressed by the sample farmers. The lack of storage facility was the most important problems faced by the intermediaries. 96 pp. Englisch.

Marigold is one of the most commonl…y grown flower crops used extensively as decorative plants, religious and social functions in different forms. It has gained importance amongst the growers and flower dealers on account of its easy cultivation and commercial value. Total sample size for the study was 100. Net income was Rs. 45257.98 per ha for contract farmers and it was Rs. 32694.54 per ha for non-contract farmers. Cobb-Douglas and stochastic frontier production functions were used. Yield uncertainty and price uncertainty were estimated. The factors determining the participation of farmers in the contract farming were fixed price, experience in contract farming and total returns from marigold. The benefits of marigold cultivation under contract farming were assured buyer for the produce, no rejection of produce which indicates that though there was damage and poor quality of produce, all the produce were procured by the firm, and the farm gate collection.
